FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
This is your hub for questions that we hear asked from all aspects of the club; from club volleyball, academies, training sessions and more.
Tryouts
Pre-tryout clinics are held to ensure that players get a chance to meet and know their coaches. Team coaches will be on the floor running drills. If the player likes the coach, they should come to tryouts.
Its difficult to make decisions with so many athletes competing for the same positions in a 2-hour tryout. We place a large focus on coachability over skill level. Knowing players are coachable and have a good attitude will always result in a better season for everyone, regardless of win/loss records. Players will ultimately be evaluated on coachability, fundamental skills, communication, teamwork, attitude and effort.
Teams and Practice
There will be two teams in each age group from 12U to 18U. Each team consists of 10 athletes and 2-3 coaches. We do not typically encourage athletes to “play up” an age level unless it is beneficial for both the player and the team.
Each team will practice twice a week in our Irvington facility. Boys will practice at the Levi Carter Park Sports Complex. Any additional training (strength and conditioning, plyometrics, briefings) will also take place at the ENVY facility and be done during the 2-hour practice period.
The facility is available to all teams for team building activities on weekends at no charge.
We will also be hosting specialized training sessions throughout the season.
Fees
The “Player” Fee covers the cost of “7” tournament registrations, facility rental, coaching, uniforms, strength training, position training, recruiting seminars, sports psychology seminar, nutrition seminar.
Club fees for this upcoming season are $1700 for our girls teams.
Payment plans are available within your Playmetrics account. Each family chooses which plan works best for them. If fees are not paid by their deadlines, players will not be permitted to participate in practices and tournaments, and players will be restricted from team communication within Playmetrics until balances are brought back to current. If you have a special need regarding payment, contact one of the Club Directors.
Each player will need to register with the Great Plains Region to obtain their USAV Volleyball Membership. 12u-18u USAV membership fee is $65.
Tournaments
7 tournaments are included in the annual club fees. Additional tournaments can be added at the discretion of the coach provided the whole team agrees to pay any additional tournament fees and travel costs, if applicable.
Tournaments will typically run from mid-January to mid-April. Many are one day tournaments. Several will be multi-day tournaments.
We do not travel outside of the region if necessary. We endeavor to keep costs down for everyone. Playing tournaments in Omaha, Lincoln & Western Iowa provides a high level of competition without excess travel expenses.
ENVY teams do not typically play in national qualifier bid tournaments. National tournaments take place in July and would require teams to extend their season by several months. This is a commitment many athletes (and parents) are unwilling or unable to accept. As a club, we do not believe the ends justify the means.
If you have further questions about this topic, please contact the club Director.
Uniforms
The club will provide uniforms (2 jerseys, warmup top and backpack) for each athlete. Uniform costs are included in the club fees. Players will try on sample jerseys & warmups soon after teams have been chosen.
Coaching Staff
ENVY Volleyball was founded by Mike Picard, who is the current Executive Director. We currently have 40+ coaches, all of whom are IMPACT and First-Aid certified. All Head Coaches are Gold Medal Squared Certified and many also carry FIVB Volleyball Coach certifications.
Our coaches are all proponents of our philosophy to build self-confidence using continual positive feedback. Regardless of wins and losses, athletes should be having fun and we endeavor to make sure they have a positive club experience.
Position Specific Training
Throughout the season, specialty training sessions are held for players who wish to focus on specific skill sets. Sessions will typically take place on a non-tournament weekend.
Strength & Conditioning Program
The ENVY Strong strength and conditioning program is included in the club fees and will be 30 minutes of every 2-hour practice session. The program has been developed by certified athletic trainers and strength coaches to promote flexibility, endurance and focus on muscle groups specifically advantageous to our sport and to prevent injury.
Traveling
If a team has agreed to do an additional “travel tournament” outside the local region, the cost will be separate from club fees. For instance, a typical multi-day travel tournament in Kansas City or Des Moines will include the following:
- Tournament registration: $800
- Hotel for 2 coaches: $1000
- Per diem for 2 coaches: $300
- Total costs for the team: $2100 or an extra $210 for each player.
If the coach cannot get commitment from at least 8 players, the team should not travel.
Attendance
Any absence from a practice or a tournament must be communicated with a coach from your team prior to the activity. Attendance at practice and tournament is mandatory unless there is a conflict with family or school activities.
· Practices: You are expected to be in the gym, ready to practice 15 minutes prior to scheduled practice time.
· Tournaments: You are expected to be in the gym, ready to play 30 minutes prior to scheduled tournament time.
Officiating and Rules
All players are required to officiate. All players are also required to complete the required Officiating courses provided within the USAV Academy. Coaches will hold individual officiating training prior to the tournament season. Keeping book, line judging and officiating are an important part of playing club volleyball.
During the initial Parent Night, all parents and players will be made aware of rule changes for the year and expectations for all players during the season.
Recruiting
Our college recruiting program is robust and includes both direct relationships with multiple college coaches and promoting players through highlight films. We also utilize software applications that provide athletes with the best options available to meet their goals.

Facility Rules
At all times, players and parents represent the club, regardless of location.
While in the ENVY facility, please ensure you keep the facilities clean. This means players use the racks for your gear, pick up trash, etc.
At tournaments, please ensure you leave your team area better than you found it. This is a reflection on you as an individual, your team and Club.
Representing the Club
There are several pages in the current Parent/Player Handbook outlining roles, responsibilities, and expectations for athletes and team parents.
We appreciate everything our club parents do to support their athletes. We (and they) cannot do this without you. Please keep in mind that parent behavior reflects directly upon your athlete, their team and the club.
Please refrain from questioning official's calls, yelling at the scorekeeper, and yelling at the players. Please treat the players, officials and the coaches with respect. If there is a problem with another team's parent or coach, notify the tournament director or on-site official.
Grievances
If there is an issue dealing specifically with your daughter or her team, please schedule a meeting with the coach. Please do NOT approach coaches before, during or after tournaments or practice sessions to discuss these concerns.
Communication
Please download the Playmetrics app within your app store. This is our main source of communication. You can select multiple methods of notifications; SMS, Email, and push notifications via the app.
Teams will be using Playmetrics as the main source of communication, for tournaments, practices, and other team needs.
We suggest you check the app prior to departure for practices and tournaments, especially during inclement weather.
E-mail is another important tool we will utilize when communicating with players, parents, and coaches. If you do not have e-mail and would like help in setting up an account, please contact Darion. If there are absolutely no possible ways you can get access to the website or e-mail, please let us know so we can set up other ways of communication.
Weather
In case of inclement weather during the year please check the website for cancellations. Information will be posted on the Home page. A message in Playmetrics will also be sent out, and it will be published on social media.
